70 Dogs Bound for Forever Homes
Rescued by: Dog Is My Copilot in Jackson, WY, in partnership with FHF, DAWG & Archangel Animal Network
In the early morning hours, a remarkable rescue mission unfolded in Denison, TX. 70 dogs, hailing from 10 different rural shelters, boarded the Dog is My CoPilot plane. Their destination? Wisconsin and Minnesota, where rescue partners eagerly awaited their arrival – many of them already with loving adopters ready to welcome these dogs into their forever homes!
This extraordinary flight, sponsored by FarmHouse Fresh®, is one of the Smurfy Ever After Rescue Project initiatives in partnership with Dog Is My CoPilot and DAWG (Denison Animal Welfare Group). But here’s the plot twist: 90 dogs (as well as some kittens) were supposed to have boarded the plane that morning, but it was too full to accommodate them all!
Luckily, Archangel Animal Network came to the rescue, organizing an emergency ground transport for the remaining 20+ animals. These resilient pups have come a long way, originally from small, high-intake shelters or abandoned in the Texas countryside. Due to the state's rampant pet overpopulation, they were all at risk of euthanasia. Texas tops the charts, with the highest number of animals euthanized due to overcrowding and lack of homes.
But today, that narrative changed.
This was truly a joint life-saving effort. Together, these rescue groups are making miracles happen for these deserving animals – there's never a dull moment when lives are being saved EVERY single day!
The Smurfy Ever After Rescue Project is helping this incredible organization's team to provide rescue & healing:
With two Cessna Caravans and a dedicated team of volunteer pilots, they have already saved the lives of over 29,000 dogs and cats. They purchased a second airplane in 2022 to increase their life-saving capacity. They fly as many animals as possible in one flight, never charging for their rescue flights to their partner organizations. Their flights prioritize animals from California, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas, where pets are at the highest risk of euthanasia, and transport them to regions with loving families ready to adopt.
Their vision is a world without euthanasia, where all animals find safe, loving homes. Until then, they remain dedicated to their mission of saving lives, one flight at a time. Dr. Peter Rork's passion for flying and compassion for animals have created a unique organization that has touched the lives of thousands of animals, giving them hope and a chance for a brighter future.
